New Window Styles and Home Trends for 2017 in Philadelphia

January 11, 2017

The beginning of the new year is an ideal time to shake up your home design and window treatments with the new styles of 2017. From painting your living room, to buying new window treatments or swapping out furniture, we have tips on what’s in vogue this year for interior fashion and window treatment trends in Philadelphia.

Dusky Hues & Pastels

Both pastels and dusky tones are trending while clear, bright colors are on the wane. Shades of cooler colors like blues and grays are especially popular as are dusty hues of pink, blue, and yellow. Many colors on the spectrum are suggestive of nature from deep blue to “Greenery”, Pantone’s color of the year. Neutral tones are still found in the color palette with whites, grays and darker browns balancing out the other tones.

Painting most of your walls in a neutral color and then adding in pops of color with feature walls, accessories, and small furnishings may be one of the easiest ways to revamp the color in your home. Then it’s a cinch to have the latest colors in your home now and swap the accessories out when color schemes switch after some time. When considering new window coverings, choose ones in neutral tones such as Polywood® plantation shutters in white or a natural wood color stain. These will go beautifully with any style or color scheme and won’t need to be changed if you switch room colors down the line.

Textures

Natural textures continue to be popular this year. Fibers that are hot include weaved material in rugs or baskets, rustic wood, and twine. You’ll see these textures showing up in new places including on furniture, headboards, and conversation pieces. Add new life into an old belonging with a small project such as wrapping a frame in twine or making an interest piece out of old wood.

Incorporating texture into your home through window treatments add another degree of style to your décor. Reclaimed wood shutters are built from historic, natural wood that was once part of doors or homes. The wood has unique knots and grain lines that bring an all-natural quality to your house. Other window treatments that add texture are Ovation® wood shutters or shades made of natural woven material.

Metals

Interior design motifs that incorporate a variety of metals are becoming popular across Philadelphia. Gold, nickel, and brass are especially stylish in 2017. You can incorporate metals in your décor by finding industrial, homespun, and/or vintage pieces such as stools, chairs, or light fixtures that are built from metals. Also, don’t hesitate to utilize nickel or brass in your faucets or cabinetry for a more modern aesthetic.

Sliding barn doors and barn door shutters are a charming way to incorporate metals and add a streamlined or rustic look to your room. Barn doors are constructed from solid wood and are available in a wide array of hardware such as rollers, sliding tracks, and pull handles made from steel.
