ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2022 is a voluntary criterion that spells out new guidelines for window treatments that “reduce the possibility of injury, including strangulation, to young children from the bead chain, cord, or any type of flexible loop.”
Beginning June 1, 2024, window coverings sold in the United States have to meet the new safety standard. Most products will convert to cordless designs. Treatments that use a continuous loop operating system must include a compliant tension device that stops the loop from becoming a strangulation threat. These rules will notably decrease the chance of window treatment cord injuries and deaths among young children.
